In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat the mixture until smooth and creamy, which should take about 2-3 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed to ensure everything is well mixed.
