Ingredients

250g halloumi cheese, cut into 1 cm thick sticks

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1 large egg, beaten

1 cup panko breadcrumbs (for added crunch)

Olive oil, for frying

Fresh lemon wedges, for serving

Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Halloumi: Start by using paper towels to gently pat the halloumi cheese slices dry. Removing excess moisture will help the fries achieve a perfectly crispy texture.

Set Up Your Breading Station: Arrange three shallow bowls in a line. In the first bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Beat the egg in the second bowl. In the third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs, setting the stage for your breading process.

Bread the Halloumi: Take each halloumi stick and first coat it in the flour mixture, ensuring every side is covered. Tap off any excess flour before moving on. Next, dip the coated halloumi into the beaten egg, allowing the extra egg to drip back into the bowl. Finally, roll the halloumi stick in the panko breadcrumbs, making sure it is completely and evenly coated.

Heat the Oil: Pour about 1/4 inch of olive oil into a large frying pan and heat it over medium-high heat. The oil is ready when it shimmers but is not smoking—this indicates it’s hot enough for frying.

Fry the Halloumi: Carefully place the breaded halloumi sticks in the hot oil in batches, taking care not to overcrowd the pan. Fry each stick for approximately 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they develop a beautiful golden brown color and a crispy exterior. Use tongs to gently flip the fries to prevent breaking.

Drain Excess Oil: Once the halloumi fries are beautifully golden and crisp, transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Serve: Finish off by sprinkling the crispy halloumi fries with fresh chopped parsley. Serve them hot, accompanied by fresh lemon wedges for squeezing over the top for a zesty kick. Enjoy your delightful Crispy Greek Halloumi Fries!
