Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu

2 tablespoons cornstarch

3 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons Sriracha sauce

1 tablespoon maple syrup

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 green onions, finely chopped (for garnish)

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

Prep the Tofu: Start by pressing the tofu to remove as much moisture as possible. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object, like a skillet or a few cookbooks, on top for about 15-20 minutes. After pressing, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes. This helps achieve that crispy texture later.

Make the Sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, Sriracha, maple syrup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk everything together until you have a uniform mixture; this will serve as the tasty marinade for the tofu.

Coat the Tofu: In a large bowl, add the cornstarch. Carefully introduce the pressed tofu cubes into the bowl and gently toss them in the cornstarch until they are evenly coated. This will provide that crucial crispy outer layer.

Marinate the Tofu: Next, pour the previously prepared sauce over the cornstarch-coated tofu. Gently toss until every piece of tofu is well coated with the sauce. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes if you have time, to enhance the flavor absorption.

Preheat the Oven: While the tofu is soaking in all those delicious flavors, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) so it’s ready for roasting.

Roast the Tofu: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Spread the marinated tofu cubes in a single layer on the baking sheet. Drizzle the olive oil over the tofu, ensuring each piece gets a touch; this will help achieve that golden crispiness.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast for approximately 25-30 minutes. Be sure to flip the tofu halfway through the roasting time to ensure even cooking and browning. The tofu should emerge golden brown and crispy when finished.

Garnish and Serve: Once roasted, take the tofu out of the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes. Garnish with the finely chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for extra flair. Serve warm as a delightful side dish, in a nourishing grain bowl, or wrapped up in a tortilla!
