Ingredients

For the Crispy Tofu:

14 oz firm tofu

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying

For the Spicy Peanut Sauce:

1/3 cup creamy peanut butter

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)

1 teaspoon sriracha (adjustable for desired spice level)

2 tablespoons warm water (for thinning the sauce)

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Chopped peanuts and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu:

    - Start by draining the tofu. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place it under a heavy object, like a cast-iron skillet, for 15-20 minutes. This process will eliminate excess moisture, ensuring that your tofu becomes crispy.

      - After pressing, carefully unwrap the tofu and cut it into bite-sized cubes, around 1-inch in size.

        Coat the Tofu:

          - In a medium mixing bowl, combine the cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to blend the dry ingredients.

            - Add the tofu cubes to the bowl and gently toss them until they are evenly coated with the mixture, making sure to handle them carefully to avoid breaking.

              Fry the Tofu:

                - In a non-stick skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Ensure the oil is hot before adding tofu—this helps achieve a crispy texture.

                  - Add the coated tofu cubes in a single layer (fry in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding) and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Once cooked, transfer the tofu to a plate lined with paper towels to soak up any excess oil.

                    Make the Spicy Peanut Sauce:

                      - In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the creamy peanut butter, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey (or maple syrup), sriracha, and sesame oil. Mix until the ingredients are well combined and smooth.

                        - If the sauce is too thick, gradually add warm water, one tablespoon at a time, stirring until your desired consistency is achieved.

                          Serve:

                            - Arrange the crispy tofu cubes on a serving platter. For a decorative touch, drizzle the spicy peanut sauce generously over the top, or serve it in a small bowl on the side for dipping.

                              - Garnish the dish with a sprinkle of chopped peanuts and sliced green onions for added texture and flavor.

                                Enjoy:

                                  - Pair your crispy tofu with steamed jasmine rice or sautéed seasonal vegetables for a fulfilling and delicious meal!
