Ingredients

1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

Optional: Pinch of cayenne pepper (for a spicy kick)

Optional: Fresh herbs (such as parsley or thyme) for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the Air Fryer: Begin by preheating your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes. This ensures that your chickpeas start cooking immediately, promoting an even crunch.

Prepare the Chickpeas: Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas thoroughly under cold water. Use a paper towel to gently pat them dry, as removing moisture is crucial for achieving that satisfying crunch.

Season the Chickpeas: In a large mixing bowl, combine the dried chickpeas with the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if desired). Toss the chickpeas well to ensure they are evenly coated with the flavorful seasoning mix.

Air Fry the Chickpeas: Carefully place the seasoned chickpeas in the air fryer basket, spreading them out in a single layer. Cook them for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to promote even cooking. Monitor their progress closely after the 10-minute mark—it’s important to ensure they reach a golden brown color without burning. Your goal is crispy, crunchy chickpeas!

Cool and Serve: Once the chickpeas are done, remove them from the air fryer and allow them to cool for a few minutes to enhance their crunchiness. Transfer them to a serving bowl and, if you like, sprinkle with fresh herbs for a delightful pop of flavor and color.

Storing: Store any leftover chickpea croutons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If they lose their crispness, simply re-crisp them in the air fryer for an additional 5 minutes.
