Ingredients

1 lb ground beef or turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup teriyaki sauce, plus extra for glazing

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 slices fresh pineapple

4 burger buns (preferably brioche or whole grain)

4 slices Swiss or provolone cheese (optional)

Lettuce leaves, for serving

Sliced tomatoes, for serving

Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey with breadcrumbs, finely chopped green onions, minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, sesame oil, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Mix gently until just combined to maintain a tender texture; avoid overworking the meat. Form the mixture into 4 evenly sized patties, pressing slightly in the center to ensure even cooking.

Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high heat. If using a grill pan on the stovetop, preheat it to the same temperature and lightly grease the surface with cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Grill the Pineapple: Lightly brush each pineapple slice with teriyaki sauce using a basting brush. Place the slices on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until you see beautiful grill marks and the pineapple caramelizes slightly. Once done, remove them from the grill and set aside.

Grill the Patties: Lay the formed burger patties on the grill, cooking for approximately 4-5 minutes on one side. After flipping, if you are using cheese, place a slice on each patty at this point. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes or until they reach the desired cooking temperature (160°F for beef and 165°F for turkey).

Toast the Buns: In the last few minutes of cooking, place the burger buns cut side down on the grill. Toast for about 1-2 minutes until they are golden brown and lightly crisp.

Assemble the Burgers: On the bottom half of each toasted bun, spread a thin layer of extra teriyaki sauce. Place a grilled patty on top, followed by a slice of grilled pineapple, a fresh lettuce leaf, and a few slices of ripe tomato. Finish by adding the top half of the bun.

Garnish and Serve: If you wish, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top of each burger for an extra crunch and aesthetic appeal. Serve immediately alongside your favorite sides, such as sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.
