Ingredients

1 cup pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

½ cup pizza sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup pepperoni slices (or your choice of fillings, such as diced cooked vegetables or crumbled sausage)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon olive oil

Cooking spray (for the air fryer)

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Prep the Dough: If using store-bought pizza dough, allow it to come to room temperature for about 20 minutes. For homemade dough, roll it out on a lightly floured surface until it’s approximately ¼ inch thick.

Cut Out Circles: Use a round cutter, about 4-5 inches in diameter, to cut out circles from the rolled-out dough. Aim to create about 4-6 circles, adjusting based on the thickness and size of your dough.

Assemble the Calzones: Place a tablespoon of pizza sauce on one half of each dough circle. Evenly distribute shredded mozzarella cheese, a few pepperoni slices, and a sprinkle of dried oregano and garlic powder over the sauce.

Seal the Calzones: Carefully fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges tightly to achieve a secure seal, then use a fork to crimp the edges for an added decorative touch and to ensure the fillings stay inside.

Prepare for Air Frying: Lightly brush or spray the outer sides of the calzones with olive oil. This will help achieve a beautifully golden and crispy exterior.

Cooking Time: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Once heated, arrange the calzones in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring there’s enough space between each for optimal air circulation.

Air Fry the Calzones: Cook the calzones for 8-10 minutes or until they turn golden brown and puff up. If you're making multiple batches, avoid overcrowding for the best results.

Serve: Carefully remove the calzones from the air fryer and let them cool for a minute or two before serving. If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves for a touch of color and flavor. Pair these delicious mini calzones with extra pizza sauce on the side for delightful dipping!
