Ingredients

1 package (1 lb) of ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 package (17.3 oz) of puff pastry sheets (contains 2 sheets)

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Sesame seeds (for topping)

Optional accompaniments: pickles, lettuce, and ketchup for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). While the oven is heating, line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Cook the Filling: In a large skillet set over medium heat, add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent. Next, add the ground beef to the skillet, using a spatula to break it apart. Brown the beef for approximately 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once browned, drain any excess fat from the skillet.

Season the Mixture: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix thoroughly to ensure that all the flavors blend well. Once combined, remove the skillet from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.

Incorporate the Cheese: When the beef mixture is cool enough to handle, fold in the shredded cheddar cheese until it is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Prepare the Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets to flatten them slightly. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut each sheet into 3-inch squares. You should have a total of 24 squares (12 from each sheet).

Fill the Pastries: Take approximately 1 tablespoon of the beef and cheese filling and place it in the center of each pastry square. Take care not to overfill to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.

Seal the Pastries: Gently fold the corners of each pastry square over the filling to create a pocket or triangle shape. Use the tines of a fork to press down along the edges, sealing them completely to keep the filling inside.

Egg Wash and Sprinkle: Arrange the filled pastries on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them out evenly. Brush the tops of each pastry with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden color while baking. Finally, sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added texture and flavor.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up.

Serve and Enjoy: Once baked, carefully remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. These Mini Cheeseburger Puff Pastries can be enjoyed on their own or complemented with optional toppings such as pickles, fresh lettuce, and a side of ketchup.
