Ingredients

4 large pieces of French bread (or Ciabatta)

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for serving)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

¼ cup fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)

3 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking.

Prepare Bread Boats: Slice each piece of French bread in half lengthwise. Gently hollow out the center of each half, creating a ‘boat’ to hold the filling. Reserve the bread pieces you remove; they can be used for breadcrumbs or other recipes.

Make the Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well integrated and creamy.

Incorporate Marinara: Gently fold in ¾ cup of marinara sauce into the cheese mixture, ensuring an even distribution throughout the mix.

Fill the Boats: Generously spoon the cheese and marinara mixture into each hollowed-out bread piece, filling them to the brim. If you’d like, top each with a little extra marinara sauce for added flavor.

Add More Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese evenly on top of each filled bread boat, allowing for a cheesy, bubbly finish as it bakes.

Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil and red pepper flakes (if using). Brush this garlic-infused oil over the crust of each bread boat for an added layer of flavor and a touch of spice.

Bake: Arrange the filled bread boats on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove the boats from the oven and sprinkle them with fresh chopped basil for a pop of color and freshness. Allow them to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with additional marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

                    Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 35 minutes | Servings: 4-6
