Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour (heat-treated for safety)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1 cup mini chocolate chips

1 cup crushed Oreo cookies (plus extra for topping)

1/2 cup cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup chocolate chips (for melting, optional for drizzling)

Instructions

Prepare the Flour: To eliminate the risk of raw flour, spread the all-purpose flour evenly on a baking sheet. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even heating. Allow the flour to cool completely before using.

Mix the Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, packed brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Using an electric mixer, cream the mixture on medium speed for about 2-3 minutes, until it is light and fluffy.

Add in Flavor: Once the mixture has reached the desired consistency, blend in the vanilla extract using a spatula, mixing until fully incorporated.

Incorporate the Flour: Gradually add the heat-treated flour to the butter-sugar mixture. Stir well with a spatula or wooden spoon until the dough is thick and no flour streaks remain.

Fold in the Goodies: Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips and crushed Oreo cookies, ensuring they are evenly dispersed throughout the cookie dough.

Add Cream Cheese: Carefully fold in the softened cream cheese until the mixture is smooth and creamy, which will lend a rich texture to the bars.

Prepare the Pan: Line an 8-inch square baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides. This will make it easier to lift the bars out after chilling.

Spread the Mixture: Pour the cookie dough mixture into the prepared baking dish. Use a spatula to spread the mixture evenly, pressing it down firmly to create a compact layer.

Chill: Place the pan in the refrigerator and allow it to chill for at least 1-2 hours. This helps the bars to firm up nicely.

Optional Drizzle: If you wish to add a chocolate drizzle, melt the 1/2 cup of chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 20-second intervals, stirring well in between, until smooth and fully melted. Drizzle over the chilled cookie dough bars.

Add Topping: Sprinkle any remaining crushed Oreo cookies on top of the melted chocolate for an extra crunch and visual appeal.

Cut and Serve: Once the bars have chilled and firmed up, use the parchment overhang to lift them out of the baking dish. Place them on a cutting board and slice into squares. Serve and enjoy!

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 2 hours (including chilling time) | Servings: 16 bars
