Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

3 cups fresh broccoli florets

1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips

3 cloves garlic, finely minced

1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and minced

1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce, divided

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon honey

2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided

1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for added heat)

Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Sesame seeds and finely chopped green onions, for garnishing

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well to ensure the beef is evenly coated. Let the mixture marinate for at least 15 minutes to enhance the flavor while you prep the other ingredients.

Prepare the Sauce: In a separate small bowl, whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, and the cornstarch-water mixture until smooth. This sauce will add depth and sweetness to your dish. Set aside for later use.

Sauté the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the marinated beef in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan (you may need to do this in batches). Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until the beef is nicely browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and transfer it to a plate to rest.

Stir-Fry the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Toss in the broccoli florets and sliced red bell pepper. Stir-fry for about 4-5 minutes, or until the vegetables are vibrant and tender-crisp. For an extra touch, you can add a splash of water and cover the pan briefly to steam the vegetables, helping them become even more tender.

Combine Ingredients: Return the sautéed beef to the skillet with the cooked vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce mixture over everything and, if you like some heat, sprinkle in the crushed red pepper flakes. Stir continuously for another 2-3 minutes, making sure the beef is completely cooked through and the sauce has thickened to a glossy finish.

Serve: Remove the skillet from heat and serve the beef and broccoli immediately over a bed of cooked rice or noodles. For a beautiful presentation, garnish your dish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and freshly chopped green onions.
