Ingredients

1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage

1 medium onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 bell pepper (your choice of red or green), diced

2 large carrots, peeled and diced

1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained

1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce

1 can (15 ounces) tomato paste

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon dried basil

2 teaspoons dried oregano

1 teaspoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)

1 cup cannellini beans (or kidney beans), drained and rinsed

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (for garnish)

Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Cooked pasta (such as spaghetti or your favorite type, optional for serving)

Instructions

Begin by heating a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef or Italian sausage and cook until fully browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat from the pan to keep the chili from becoming greasy.

Next, transfer the cooked meat into the slow cooker. In the slow cooker, add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, diced bell pepper, and diced carrots. Follow that with the undrained diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste.

Pour in 1 cup of beef broth, then sprinkle in the dried basil, dried oregano, granulated sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if desired). Stir the mixture well to ensure all ingredients are evenly combined.

Secure the lid on the slow cooker. Allow it to cook on low for 6 to 8 hours for rich flavors, or on high for 3 to 4 hours for a quicker option.

About 30 minutes before you plan to serve the chili, gently fold in the rinsed cannellini beans, ensuring they are fully submerged in the sauce. Allow them to heat through until served.

Before serving, taste the chili and adjust the seasoning to your preference if needed.

Serve the Neapolitan chili hot, garnished with a generous handful of freshly chopped basil and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese for an extra layer of flavor. For a heartier meal, ladle the chili over a bed of cooked pasta.

                Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 6-8 hours | Servings: 6-8

                  - Presentation Tips: For a stunning presentation, serve the chili in large bowls or on a plate with pasta, topped with the fresh basil and Parmesan for a pop of color and flavor. A side of crusty bread can complement the dish perfectly!
